The Shawnee Mission District new Drug and Alcohol policy for the 2019-20 seasons is as follows:
1st Offense - A meeting with the AD, Coach, student athlete and parents. The student athlete must complete a substance abuse program before being allowed to compete in any games. The student athlete may continue to practice. There will also be a MINIMUM suspension of 2 games and depending on the severity of the offense could be more than 2 games.
2nd Offense - A meeting with the AD, Coach, student athlete and parents. The student athlete must complete a substance abuse program before being allowed to compete in any games. The student athlete may continue to practice. There will also be a MINIMUM suspension of 1/2 the season, and depending on the severity of the offense could be more than 1/2 the season.
3rd Offense - A meeting with the AD, Coach, student athlete and parents. The student athlete must complete a substance abuse program before being allowed to compete in any games. The student athlete may continue to practice. There will also be a MINIMUM suspension of 1 calendar year.
Any violation outside of season will be carried over to the next season that the student athlete participates in.
Bottom line is, make good choices! You only get one chance to play high school sports. It is a privilage not a right!
